Brussels, 26 June 2007 - The Environment Committee today voted for a modest improvement on the proposed Thematic Strategy and Framework Directive on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides. Environmental and health groups EEB, Friends of the Earth Europe, Health & Environment Alliance and Pesticides Action Network Europe, are glad that Members of the European Parliament have successfully brought in some positive measures to reduce total exposure to and risks from pesticides. The improved proposals received overwhelming cross-party support.
Brussels / Strasbourg, April 25 2007 - The European Parliament has failed to promote the sustainable management of floods, warned the European Environmental Bureau, Friends of the Earth Europe and WWF. Voting on the Floods Directive in Strasbourg today, Members of the European Parliament stopped short of promoting an approach that works with natural defences like wetlands, floodplains and riverbank woodlands.
Brussels, Belgium, March 10, 2006 -- Billions of euros of taxpayers' money are in danger of being used to fund controversial infrastructure projects in the new member states of the European Union, according to a new map launched today by CEE Bankwatch Network and Friends of the Earth Europe. The warning is issued as the EU gears up to pour EUR 157 billion in Structural and Cohesion Funds into its new member states and accession countries between 2007 and 2013.
