Extractive industries Raising awareness of the devastating effects of extractive industries on environments, communities and the climate

22 January 2019

In a victory for the movement for a fossil free Europe, a climate-damaging gas pipeline project between France and Catalonia has today been blocked by French energy regulators.

The European Parliament today voted to approve a 7-year extension of EU subsidies for climate-wrecking fossil gas projects, as part of the new budget.

While the climate emergency rightly takes more and more space in the political debate, it is still business-as-usual when opportunities to withdraw from fossil fuels come up, said Friends of the Earth Europe.

Friends of the Earth Europe works to prevent the extractive industries from destroying people's lives, the environment and the climate. We believe that resources should be utilised fairly and sustainably. Enforceable rules and practices are required to ensure that natural resources are a blessing, not a curse.

We are working to create the much-needed, fair and urgent transition to a fossil fuel free Europe by 2030 - dismantling the fossil fuel system and creating the just, clean energy future that people want and need.
